Fundraising

As with any non-profit organisation, we are always looking for new ways to provide additional funds to maintain and buy new equipment.

Due to our divers' successes, we are attending more competitions and need funds to help cover the cost of these trips.

The committee also applies for local, regional and national grants to help the club.

Club competitions

Club competitions are one of the main ways we raise funds. Please support the club by attending. See here for past events.

We also collect supermarket vouchers for kids, which go towards equipment.

Club swimathon fundraiser

Well done to eight members of the club who faced an ultimate test of endurance by taking part in an exhausting 24-hour swimathon.

The fundraising event took place at Guildford Lido on Saturday 25 April, starting at 7am and finished at the same time the following day.

The swimmers in the team included head coach Laura Neall, club coaches Juliet Bowerman and Lewis Thomas and club chairman Stuart Johnson.

Stuart said it had been a simple but gruelling challenge, with each team of four needing to complete one mile in the pool every hour for 24 hours.

He said: “The first few dips were the easy part. But as we descended into the night, balancing sleep with chilly tumble-turns, things got interesting and those lengths were feeling endless.”

More than 85% of the £4,000 target has been reached so far.

Funds raised will go towards training equipment, including refreshing and replacing wallbars and essential repairs to our TIVO replay system, transforming how our divers learn and improve.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, moves us closer to these goals and directly impacts the future of diving in our community.

Easyfundraising

Support Star Diving Club by registering with easyfundraising, the UK's biggest charity shopping site, which helps schools, sports clubs and other good causes to raise money when supporters shop online.

Crowdfunder

In February 2021, we launched our Crowdfunder campaign in which we aimed to reach 5,000km in physical challenges and convert them to cash to help secure the club's financial future.

Through our supporters' efforts and generosity we topped the target, completing the 28-day challenge at just over 6K. Divers, parents, family and friends walked, ran and cycled to help us achieve the magical final figure.

People also took part in online yoga, pilates and stretch-and-relax classes. Others bought fine art prints, signed books, a bespoke cake, a pamper hamper, club merchandise, 121 sessions with our head coach, and a family haircut for up to four.

Mia was the winner of the personally-signed club T-shirt from GB, European and world diving champion and Olympic medallist Tom Daley.

The money raised went towards balancing our books in the aftermath of the pandemic and helped us get back on a sound footing.
