Squad Diving

Squad Selection

Children are selected to join our squads by the head coach if they have the physical and mental attributes to be a competitive diver. We are always looking for talented children in beginner's lessons, holiday courses and taster sessions who could be competitive divers. The traits we are looking for are:

  • Flexibility: good pike shape, splits, flexible shoulders and achillies.
  • Springy jumps
  • Strength: strong core, arms and legs
  • Good toe point
  • Competent headstand and handstands
  • Coordination & Control
  • Bravery & willingness to try new skills from high boards
  • Attention to detail and form
  • Ability to make changes to dives from coaches comments

Children with a background in competitive gymnastics, tumbling, trampolining and dance often have some of the traits to make successful competitive divers. If you think your child has some or all of these attributes please contact our Senior Coach to arrange a trial quoting TALENT TRIAL.

Squad Structure

The squad scheme has two pathways a Competitive Pathway and an Elite Pathway which covers 7 competitive squads. We have two levels of TID Groups which children with potential are invited to join to learn the basics of diving and from these can be selected to join a squad. The squad divers do a mixture of pool and dryland training including conditioning, gymnastics work, trampolining and dryboard training. The divers range from novice to junior international level and train between 3 and 19 hours/week.
