About Star Diving Club
Mission Statement
To provide a pathway for divers to achieve their maximum potential at any level.
We
are an independent diving club training at The Guildford Spectrum and Woking
Leisure Centre. We have use of 1m and 3m springboards plus a 5m platform,
trampolines and matted flooring. Our members’ age range is from 5 years
upwards.
We
aim to enable our members to get the most they can from the sport based on
their ability, time and commitment.
We
are affiliated to the ASA and are actively involved with Swim 21
accreditation. We are also an Active
Surrey Silver Club.
The club is run by ASA qualified diving teachers under the direction of club coach Steve Hewat. We have an active committee that provides valuable support to the club. This enables the teachers to concentrate on all club sessions and events.
There
are two pathways for members to follow - recreational and competitive.
- Divers
following the recreational route follow our grade scheme with certificates
awarded for achieving each level.
- Our
competitive divers are chosen for their potential and commitment and have the
opportunity to compete in a variety of national competitions. We run four
competitive squads.
We also organise two club competitions a year and members of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part and support the club.
Our
advanced divers are encouraged to become poolside helpers at the age of 14 and
are then given the opportunity to become qualified coaches from the age of
16. This means that members can be involved with the club throughout
their school years enabling them to enjoy the sport of diving, keep active and
gain confidence and self-esteem in the process.
